Maybe it's the
season, maybe it's the holiday
spirit that's floating through the air, maybe it's just because I just gorged myself on
turkey and
potatoes, but I just wanted to say that I'm grateful for
family.
Yes,
family -- that old tried-and-true
institution that picks you up when you're down and keeps you humble when you get your head in the
clouds. People who will
bend over backwards to help you and will always come through for you. . .even if they shouldn't.
Take Kelli Thompson from
Indiana, for example. At 12:45 am on a Saturday morn
ing she needed her family's help. She was pulled over by an
Indiana State Trooper because she was driving her
minivan a little erratically. The officer found that she was
too intoxicated to drive. The problem was, that she had a 1-year-old child in the car (who wasn't intoxicated, but
still couldn't drive) and she was charged with speeding,
operating while intoxicated and endangering a child, so she needed some help from those closest to her.
She called her husband, Robert
Dereamer and he arrived a few minutes later to pick the little boy up and take him home. There was just one problem -
he was drunk, too. The
keen-eyed officer noticed this and since
Dereamer had driven to the location, he, too, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated. . . .and driving while
suspended.
This didn't solve the
baby problem.
So the baby's
grandparents showed up a little while later to take the child safely home and, believe it or not,
pappy and
granny had been hitting the sauce themselves! They were
also intoxicated. I guess good sense runs in the family. The
old folks were then escorted home by the Schererville Police Department.
