A Movie Snack to Tide You Over

Faithful readers, I'm cooking up my lengthy, annual, subjective 2012 movie list for next week, so this week's post is just going to be something to wet your whistle. However, this video deserves a post of its own anyway. I've featured the work of Gen Ip on Slice of Fried Gold before, but every year I am amazed how she can take a plethora of films and piece them together in a beautiful way that brings out common themes and ideas -- and that plus the music make these yearly Filmographies strangely inspiring. Every time I watch Gen Ip's Filmography videos, I feel inspired to do something more with my life. . .and I feel the urge to watch more movies. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive, right? Right??

So, without further ado (because I said this post was going to be short), here is Gen Ip's Filmography 2012:



How many of these have you seen? I've only seen about 21 out of the 300+ portrayed in this video.

A Bit of a Tearjerker

I'll admit that I'm a bit of a softie. When watching a movie, a TV show or even a well-made commercial, I sometimes get caught up in the moment and find myself getting a little misty-eyed. There are certain moments in film that make me cry every time I see them. I don't know exactly what it is - maybe it's the swelling music, or the emotional performance, or the beauty of the cinematography. . .I don't know, but I know it when I see it, and I've just seen it again.

Now, I won't say much about this montage before I show it. I simply want you to enjoy it with pure eyes and an open heart. Enjoy:



*sniff* I know, right? *sniff* It's simply breathtaking.

So, faithful readers, were your favorite movie sandwiches featured in this moving cinematic piece? Or are you outraged because your favorite was snubbed? I'll admit I was a little bugged because they didn't show the impromptu scrambled egg sandwich made by Harrison Ford in The Fugitive, but I'll let it slide for now. . .just because I'm so caught up in the beauty of the moment.

A Look Back at the Films of 2010

Some people are just very talented.

This video, uploaded by genrocks (aka Gen I.), is called Filmography 2010 and it's a fairly comprehensive look at the films released this year. While normal people would have just created a montage of films jammed together without rhyme or reason, Gen I. adds complementary music in the background and intertwines quotes and scenes together in a way that is just. . .well, watch:



Impressive, no?

As a sidenote, there are 270 films featured in this 6-minute video. Out of that, I've only seen 17. Now, I'm no mathematician, but I'm thinking that's less than half. I need to get to work if I'm going to get this list done by the end of the year. So I'm off!
